Between October 18-20, 2016, Partner Jennifer Casey had the privilege of attending the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Rome District’s 2016 Fall Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The AILA Rome District Chapter serves U.S. immigration attorneys practicing abroad, with a focus on attorneys practicing in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the issues that clients seeking to obtain both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas to the United States frequently face.

The AILA Rome District Chapter Conference provided Ms. Casey with the opportunity to attend lectures from national and international experts in U.S. immigration law, particularly in the area of consular practice.  The Conference included a tour of the U.S. Consulate in Amsterdam, and afforded Ms. Casey the rare opportunity to meet with U.S. State Department Immigrant and Nonimmigrant Visa Chief for the Consular Section as well as the Director of the Fraud Unit.

Ms. Casey was also honored to serve on a panel and discuss the role of the CDC Panel Physician in the Immigrant and Nonimmigrant Visa process at U.S. Consulates abroad. The panel discussion had a particular emphasis on the impact of controlled substance use and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) on a foreign national's eligibility for a visa.

For more information on AILA, the role of Panel Physicians in the visa process, or how admissions to controlled substance use can an impact eligibility for a visa, please contact Kolko & Associates, P.C.
