The Department of Homeland Security initially designated Afghanistan for TPS on May 20, 2022, allowing citizens of Afghanistan who were physically residing the United States on September 20, 2023, and continuously physically present in the United States from November 21, 2023, to qualify for TPS and received temporary employment authorization for the duration of the TPS designation.
The current TPS designation period for individuals from Afghanistan in the United States under TPS expires on May 20, 2025.
With the formal announcement by DHS that it is terminating TPS for Afghanistan, TPS and Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for citizens of Afghanistan in the United States under TPS are extended for 60 days from the date of the DHS announcement and will expire on July 12, 2025.
